Kathleen
Burns Kingsbury is a licensed mental
health counselor, national speaker, and co-author of Weight
Wisdom: Affirmations to Free You from Food and Body Concerns
(Brunner-Routledge, 2003). She received her Master of Arts
in counseling psychology from Lesley College and has worked
in the field since 1992. She is a professional member of several
organizations including the National Eating Disorders Association
(NEDA), MEDA, Inc. (formerly known as the Massachusetts Eating
Disorders Association), and the Massachusetts Mental Health
Counselors Association. Recently, Kathleen began her tenure
as the Chairperson for NEDA's National Eating Disorders Awareness
Week, the nation's largest eating disorders outreach effort.
In
1998, Kathleen founded the South Shore Eating Disorder Collaborative,
a group of highly skilled clinicians dedicated to providing
quality care for individuals and families coping with eating
and related problems. During the past decade, she has lectured
to hundreds of parents, students and professionals regarding
the dangers of dieting and effective ways to prevent and treat
anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating . She has presented
at national and local conferences including the National Association
of Social Workers, the National Eating Disorders Association,
the Renfrew Foundation, MEDA, Inc., and the Massachusetts
Mental Health Counselors Association. Kathleen has been a
guest on the National Public Radio Show Here and Now and is
an expert source for the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald and
many other local and national news and media outlets. She
maintains a private practice in Quincy Massachusetts.
In
addition to her clinical work, Kathleen helps healthcare providers,
nonprofit agencies and small business owners creatively and
